Food:
  Cherokee people farmed and hunted. The men hunted bufdalo, raccon, squirrel, bison, deer, bear and they fished catfish, clams and salmon. The women grew corn, plums,berries, mushrooms, wild greens, wild rice, potaties, beans and sunflowers. With this food they made soup, stew, and bread.

Religion:

    Cherokee people believed they should worship the sun. Also that water beetles took some dirt from under the water and that's how there became land. Cherokee Indians also believed the moon and stars are brother and sister.

Climate:

      In the summer time it was very hot.

      In the winter mildly cold.

      It rained a a lot too. 

Entertainment:

           Drums, painting, stick ball, marbles, singing, river cane flute, turtle shell, buffalo horns, long neck gourds, and conch shells.

Culture:

      Woman wore sleeve dresses made of deer skin that is pinned to there chest. The men colored the body with paint and had to where a belt until they got married.The children were naked in the warm days. The men wore earrings made of stone. Also all Cherokee people wore moccasins.

Diary of Nita


   Today I am finally making a totem pole with my dad. He has all the materials we need like wood, bone, paint and other stuff. I am so excited. I was thinking about what faces I should put on there. I was thinking maybe a big bald eagle on top and a deer head on the bottom. The picture on top is the picture most important to you. The picture on the bottom is the picture you don't really care about. This is going to be really fun. When my dad and I are finish carving and painting the totem pole we are putting it in front of our roundhouse. All my friends have one. There totem poles are about 100ft tall. Our family's totem pole is going to be at least 120ft tall. I want it to be like 500ft tall but that will never happen because we need to trade something for more paint. I love it when we trade things. The only problem is I am not a loud to go because I have to take care if the house with mama. My brother always go with papa trading because papa says "He is becoming a young man". While the the men are going trading and hunting buffalo, the women are cleaning the house, gardening and do what women do best make clothes.  It is time for me to start carving. Write more later.

Stars in the Sky

  

          Long ago, in a tribe called Cherokee a young girl named Aponi looked up to the sky."Its so beautiful outside", she thought. "It would be more beautiful to have something else in the sky." She kept thinking. What could it be?

                That night was a ceremony. There was singing, dancing, great food and music. The mens arms were painted and the women wore sleeves dresses made of deer skin that are pinned to there chest. All the kids were playing except for Aponi. She was standing by an old williow tree. Aponi looked up to the sky then the ground then the sky again. She knew something was missing but she didn't know what it was. "Hello Aponi," said a girl named Mikka. "Hi",replied Aponi. "Why aren't you playing with us",asked Mikka. "Well", Aponi began to answer."I don't know.I just think something else is supposed to be in the sky". Mikka looked puzzled then said "Did you eat to many sweet melons again?" I knew she wouldn't understand thought Aponi. So Aponi and Mikka walked back to the ceremony.

                The next day Aponi and her brother Chochmo were outside playing A-ne-jo-di. While they were playing Aponi stopped then asked "Do you think there is something missing from are sky?' Chochmo shook his head no and said "There is a sun and a moon thats it nothing more." In reply Aponi said "I know, I know but there should be something else in the sky not in the morning at night something different, something that will make the night time sparkle even more than the moon. something that can be the moons sister, and every time the moon comes out so does the..." she stopped. "So does the what?", asked her brother."I don't know what I should name it", said Aponi. "Well maybe you should think about it later lets finish playing",said Chochmo. So they were finishing up there game of A-ne-jo-di.

                   Two days later there was another ceremony. This time Aponi wanted to go. She wanted to look at the sky an figure out what to call this thing. When the music started the people danced with joy and the kids laughed and played. When Aponi started to dance she began to twinkle. Everyone looked at her. Aponi was twinkling so beautifully and dancing so gracefully. She started pointing to people and then they began to twinkle. Aponi knew at that very moment what was missing from the night sky. "I know what is missing stars yes thats what I am going to call it stars". Aponi was so happy and so was everyone else in the sky. Every night they come up dance gracfully in the sky and they twinkle. That is how there became stars in the sky.
